GETTING "WAISTED": HOW TO CREATE ONE FOR ANY SHAPE

SEPTEMBER 06, 2011
12:45 PM

PHOTO FROM: blog.kendeharttennis.com

One of the challenges of us curvies is to create our waist (or at least find it--- some are indenial! Yes! You do have a waist! Believe me!) This is mainly because of our body type (Some types do not have one. Their boobs, waist and hips are all of the same width) or because our love handles (bilbil in Tagalog) are just too many we do not know which one is our actual!

Of course, this is not a cause of shame. Why should it be? It's just the way it is. It's natural! ^^

IN FACT, I am about to tell you that this is actually A FASHION BLESSING. Because we don't know where it is, you can place your waist ANYWHERE you like! ^^ Us curvies can have high, middle or low waist, depending on our mood and how we fashion it!

So to those ladies who wants to know how to make it so, continue reading and find out what can be your arsenals!

BESTFRIEND 1: THIN BELTS

ERZULLIE COPYRIGHT 2011
THIN BELTS
Thin belts are slimming and helps in creating a waist because aside from the obvious cinch, you can hide it as well with a little pull out from your top or the top of your flowy dress, thus creating a division between your upper and lower parts.

This is tool and method is best for ladies whose boobs, waist and hips are of the same width and also for ladies who has all the characteristics above but has a big tummy to accompany it with.  This is also great for the ladies with balanced upper and lower regions and a small waist.

The ladies who boobs and hips are small but has big tummy and no waist can also take advantage of this wonderful fashion item. The trick is to wear a very loose top, wrap the belt around the middle of your tummy and pull out the top part.

BESTFRIEND 2: THICK BELTS

COPYRIGHT ERZULLIE 2011
THICK BELTS

Now, this depends on the type of thick belt. Basically, there are three kinds.

1. The one that you close in front of you

2. The one that you close at the back

3. (The least common) The one that you close at the side

Each kind gives different effects to your body. The first one creates a smoother back and creates a smaller waist line. This is because the pull of the belt is towards your front, restraining the sides more and as well as your back. The next one is more of the "sucking in" effect. If you want to have a smoother tummy then this is your best bet. This one emphasizes more of balancing your boobs with your hips, while visually (and less physically) cinching your sides. The last one is more of controlling your whole waist. However, it is usually not as strong as the first and second kind.

The first one is great for ladies like Erzullie Icon (EI) Marian Beltran. Check out the photo below.

COPYRIGHT ERZULLIE 2011
Her boobs, waist and hips are all of the same width. The belt cinches her back, creating her a boo-teh! and at the sides. Furthermore, because the belt is thick, there is now a division between the north and south area. However, I would like to warn hour glass ladies on this one as you girls are already "cut in the middle" emphasizing that more would disproportionate your form and more often than not, your boobs would actually "rest" on the belt. Check the thick belt first if it does, if not, then it's a go!

The second one is great for ladies who are inverted triangles with tummies (Big shoulders, boobs, small waist, big tummy and other southern areas). Check out this photo of EI Katrina Catapia.

COPYRIGHT ERZULLI E2011

See how the thick belt (which closes at the back) sucks in her stomach, minimizing it, and at the same time, gives continuity to her southern end. The belt has completely divided the dress and now, visually, Katrina Catapia has a waist!

BESTFRIEND 3: TUCK IN's AND GARTERIZED BOTTOMS

Tucking your top in actually helps you divide your northern and southern area. See the photo below.

That is actually EI Jaye Querubin wearing a black wrap around tube and Erzullie Resort 2011 Maxi Shorts. Because the tube was tucked in, it created the illusion of a division in the body. The garterized bottoms, placed strategically at the smallest part of the waist, cinches is more, creating a curve!

BESTFRIEND 4: THE BLACK TUBE DRESS

COPYRIGHT ERZULLIE 2011

The black tube dress is naturally "curving". It tightens your waist, front and back, although this normally works for ladies who have the hour glass figure. There are ways that other body types can enjoy the benefits as well.

Triangle girls (small boobs, big waist, bigger hips) can actually wear something on top to beef up the northern area like a bolero or outerwear. (More on this on the next article!)

Inverted triangles with tummy (like me and EI Katrina), wear something light and elaborate on your legs to balance it out! Don't wear anything on top. Keep it minimal if you want! ^^

Squares like EI Marian, can wear something light and elaborate on both the northern and southern area plus a belt to fully maximize the benefits of the tube dress.

Ovals (small boobs, no waist, big tummy, small hips) can still wear the black tube dress in a different way. Beef your northern area with big and bold accessories, while the southern can enjoy the dress tucked in a A-Line skirt and at the feet? Very fierce shoes.

BESTFRIEND 5 HIGH WAISTED BOTTOMS

From what these fabulous items are called, you can already tell that it's meant to create a very high waist, find a waist or simply create a waist.

COPYRIGHT ERZULLIE 2011

The photo above shows EI Katrina wearing a high waisted skirt that is high waisted. As you can see on the photo, there is an instant waist effect! Just simply find the smallest part of your middle part and place it there. Voila! Instant waist!

So I hope that you ladies enjoyed this article. Have fun creating and placing your waist where you want to be. Remember! Not having a waist is a blessing. It means we can create it ANYWHERE we want! More trends for us!

Cheers!

GET PRINTASTIC! THE RIGHT PRINT AND WHERE IT SHOULD BE

SEPTEMBER 04, 2011
4:10 PM

PHOTO FROM APARTMENTTHERAPY.COM

“Prints” are a very dicey subject for us curvies as there are many conflicting notions as whether or not we should be NAY OR YAY about it. There are notions that prints make curvies look bigger or smaller depending on the size of it (big prints=bulk, small prints=reduction) but then there are beliefs that curvies should ditch the print all together.

I think that the reason for conflicting views about the print is that there are so much dimensions about it to the point that you cannot make a general judgment. Like a print can be big, bold, subdued, contrasting all at the same time. So how do you identify if a print is great for you or not?

This can cleared through analyzing your body type and finding prints that can work well with it. Prints are generally visual aids of the dress. It contours (there is that word again!), reduces and magnifies parts of our bodies. Thus, our main goal is to find the one that would balance out our body and create a look that compliments us.

Let’s get to it!

WHERE THE BIG PRINTS GO…

Big prints obviously magnify. We can use this to create visual magnifications on areas of our body that needs to catch up.

Let us put this to the test.

I am a curvy that is blessed in the general northbound area (breasts and arms), long waist, narrow hips and semi-curvy thighs (but not enough to be same width as my shoulders. As such, I need to balance my lower end with my upper end. Check out this bazaar photo of me (the one on the left) from the last Next Big Thing Bazaar.

COPYRIGHT ERZULLIE 2011
When you look at the photo, your attention goes immediately to my thighs because of the big, eye catching slash prints. Because of the prints, it sees like my hips down looks the same as the width of my shoulders. To create a balanced look, I have minimized my north bound area with a general black, mini tube dress.

So for girls like me, big prints will work best on our southbound. Just make sure you tone it down with plains.

Such prints can also be applied on curvies that has small boobs, no waist, big tummy and hips (my opposite). Check out Erzullie Icon (EI) Khriselda Guarin’s look below.

COPYRIGHT ERZULLIE 2011
Of course, the application of the print is different. Instead of wearing it at the bottom, we have applied it on the top part of Khris. When you look at the top, it seems like she has bigger boobs that is at par with the rest of her body parts. Thus, for girls with Khris’ body type, wear big prints on top, concentrating on the chest area.

For curvies that has the balanced northbound and south bound areas and enjoying a small narrow waist, (hour glass) it is okay as long as they are consistent all over and the cut of the dress is a little slick and not flowy.

That is why this jumpsuit, with big gold noticeable print lines, works great with Erzullie owner and designer, Bernalyn Cuevas. The print is consistent, making her look coherent in both north and south areas.

WHERE THE SMALL PRINTS ARE…

Small prints definitely reduce, therefore, if we cannot find big prints that cannot magnify our smaller parts, find small prints that would reduce your bigger parts. Remember the aim is to create balance!

Check out this photo of EI Katrina Catapia from the last Holiday 2010 collection. She is actually just like me. We are concentrated more on the upper parts of our body. That is why, using this print, at the top part, we are able to balance it out with her lower areas.

COPYRIGHT ERZULLIE 2011
In reverse example, EI Jaye Querubin Summer 2011 is actually small waist up. Therefore she needs some toning down from the hips down to her legs. In the photo below, we have placed on her a small printed sleeveless maxi dress. Since most of the prints of the dress is from the mid-riff down, the print reduces her general south area completely, balancing it visually with the width of her shoulders.

COMBINING THE LESSONS

So in conclusion, prints are actually our best friend! It can actually magnify and reduce specific areas that we need in order to balance our bodies. However, make sure that if you do wear prints, tame them a little by wearing plains all around. You, yourself, are eye catching already with your fabulous curves, so wearing a print is just an extra oomph!
