PLUS SIZE MODELING: CREATING YOUR PORTFOLIO

A plus size model's resume is her portfolio. In it is her range, her features and of course, her craft. If you have a great portfolio, then you do not need to drop names or have 'someone from the inside' do the sweet talking for you. It will persuade them half-way (your personality and professionalism will do the rest) on picking you already.
So how can you make a portfolio for your career as a plus size model? Here are some tips on how to do so. Again, this is based on my experience as a client and in the fashion industry. It is not the END ALL of everything.
PLUS SIZE MODELING TIP 1: JOIN OPEN SHOOTS TO INCREASE THE PHOTO OF YOUR PORTFOLIO
Of course, you have to have photos to put into your portfolio. Open shoots (sometimes you have to pay, sometimes not, depending on the arrangements) are a great way to get the portfolio you need.
PLUS SIZE MODELING TIP 2: NOT ALL PHOTOS ARE EQUAL
Overtime, you may accumulate photos. Remember to always select the best three samples of each category:
- Close Up (Minimal and Full On Make up)
- Profile (Minimal and Full on Make up)
- Whole Body (Commercial, Editorial and Catalogue)
We suggest that you focus more on the whole body shots as this shows more of your skills as a model.
PLUS SIZE MODELING TIP 3: YOUR GRANDEST PHOTO SHOULD BE IN FRONT AND THEN THE BEST PHOTO IN THE MIDDLE AND THEN THE GRANDEST AT THE END
In a model go see, FIRST IMPRESSIONS LAST that is both in your portfolio and of course as you conduct your business. There are actually a lot of ways to arrange your portfolio, however one way is to arrange it as said by the tip ABOVE.
Among all of your best photos, choose 2 of the grandest ones and 1 that is in the 2nd place (1st place is tied!)
Place your Grandest photo in front to shock and awe the client. This way they will get hooked. Then in the middle of your portfolio you put your best photo in the middle to keep the curiosity going and then the grandest one in the end to 'make the impression stick'.

PLUS SIZE MODELS: HOW TO GET BOOKED PART 3!

It's plus size model hunting season again for us as we are now planning for the next year's collection. I actually read our Part 1 and Part 2 and I just want to add to that more tips about how to get booked as a plus size model. Again, this is based on my experience as a client and a former handler of models.
PLUS SIZE MODEL TIP 1: NO NAME DROPPING
When you are applying for a job, focus on impressing the client with your portfolio and not with the 'higher up' people that you have worked with. Why? It's simply telling the client that "Gucci got me for their runway, if you don't get me for this project, then it only means that you are not high caliber like them!"
Not only will this show your arrogance, but it also shows that you are more interested in everything else than the client's brand. It is good to just let them see your portfolio. If they start asking questions, then you answer.
Also, 'name dropping' is a great sign of arrogance and it will really turn off the client.
PLUS SIZE MODEL TIP 2: RESPECT THE CLIENT LIKE YOU ARE ALREADY HIRED
This you have to take seriously. SERIOUSLY.
Act like the client before you is already your boss. Therefore, you have to make sure that you keep your manners in check! Don't talk to your client like you are 'equals' because technically, you are an employee, as a model. Of course, stand up when the person is already out of line but talking to them like they are your 'friend' or something is never a good way.
This shows how amateur you really are.
So when you have to ask or say something, screen your words before you let it out of your mouth. If you have to text or email them, mind your punctuation. Too much "!!!" or BEING ADDICTED TO CAPITALIZATION or using text speak like "OMG I LUV UR FASH LYN!!!" is not a great way to express that you are a professional. You are talking to a client and NO, YOU ARE NOT CLOSE FRIENDS BOUND IN THE HIP.
PLUS SIZE MODEL TIP 3: ARRIVE PREPARED AND READY TO GO!
One way of looking like a complete amateur in modeling is rushing to the go-see and still fixing your portfolio. You will looked rushed. You will look stressed. Your glow will diminish and well, it will show as you meet the client.
This will also show to the client the potential threat you are to the project if you are hired. I mean, think about it, what sane, serious client would like to have a model that looks harassed upon arrival and looks disorganized all over? It only shows that you can't be given a huge responsibility!
PLUS SIZE MODEL TIP 4: SUBMIT THE FULL REQUIREMENTS
In a model go see, first impression is the most important. There is no such thing as 'to follow' because this is the only chance you will get to grab the client. So make sure that you submit the full requirements for the go-see.
PLUS SIZE MODEL TIP 5: BROWSE THROUGH THE CLIENT'S WEBSITE
Plus Size Models, know what you are getting into! If you know the brand that you are applying for, it really helps to browse their website and see what they usually ask their models to do. If you can see that you can handle their clothes, then go for it. However, if you know that you can't wear tube, then why are you applying? You can't tell a client what you want to wear. Not only is that annoying and disrespectful, but it's also very fraudulent to say that you can work with the brand and then the day comes and you say you can't do it.
It's like your best friend telling you that s/he will always be there for you, but then when there is a problem, BAM! THE PERSON IS GONE. Would you like that?

We HIGHLY ENCOURAGE that you at least submit the MINIMUM PHOTO REQUIREMENTS so that you give yourself a fairer chance when it comes to review. You are not giving yourself justice if you send us NUMEROUS HEADSHOTS and NO BODY SHOTS of yourself (AND VICE VERSA). We will only cater to those who have the minimum requirements to be fair to others who have exerted their effort in following it.

PLUS SIZE FASHION TIPS: CHOOSING LEGGINGS

Leggings have become a staple for the plus size woman, not only because of its comfort but its versatility when it comes to styling. Here are some plus size fashion tips that may want to consider in choosing your very own!
PLUS SIZE FASHION TIP 1: SEE THE INSIDE OUT
A garment is only as strong as what is in the inside because that is where the construction lies. If you see that the construction is poor (threads are not trimmed and ends up in a ball, seams unraveling easily with a simple pull etc.)
PLUS SIZE FASHION TIP 2: IS IT SEE THROUGH?
Leggings are not bottoms, but they can be if they are not see through when you wear them. There will be ones that seems like they are not SEE THROUGH but when you put them on with light you will see either your skin or your panties peeping. Check it out thoroughly before you do.
PLUS SIZE FASHION TIP 3: MAKE SURE THAT IT COVERS YOUR BUTT
The reason that you are putting on a leggings is because you want it to cover your waist down. So put them on and make a squat, if your butt is showing, then find a better one!
PLUS SIZE FASHION TIP 4: CHECK FOR CAMEL TOES
I apologize if some may become offended by this tip, but it has to be said. There are a lot of women out there that goes out wearing their leggings, not knowing that their camel toe is showing. ( A Camel toe is the shape that your crotch makes as if it is having a wedgie from your bottom.) This is also the reason why leggings are not a bottom! Anyway, just make sure that it is not dividing up your crotch to avoid humiliation and the wrong suggestion.

PLUS SIZE FASHION TIP 1: SEE THE INSIDE OUT
A garment is only as strong as what is in the inside because that is where the construction lies. If you see that the construction is poor (threads are not trimmed and ends up in a ball, seams unraveling easily with a simple pull etc.)
PLUS SIZE FASHION TIP 2: IS IT SEE THROUGH?
Leggings are not bottoms, but they can be if they are not see through when you wear them. There will be ones that seems like they are not SEE THROUGH but when you put them on with light you will see either your skin or your panties peeping. Check it out thoroughly before you do.
PLUS SIZE FASHION TIP 3: MAKE SURE THAT IT COVERS YOUR BUTT
The reason that you are putting on a leggings is because you want it to cover your waist down. So put them on and make a squat, if your butt is showing, then find a better one!
PLUS SIZE FASHION TIP 4: CHECK FOR CAMEL TOES
I apologize if some may become offended by this tip, but it has to be said. There are a lot of women out there that goes out wearing their leggings, not knowing that their camel toe is showing. ( A Camel toe is the shape that your crotch makes as if it is having a wedgie from your bottom.) This is also the reason why leggings are not a bottom! Anyway, just make sure that it is not dividing up your crotch to avoid humiliation and the wrong suggestion.
