PLUS SIZE STYLE: “TOKYO DRIFT”

Erzulliesta Azaza has always been enamored to cosplay. It’s the culture, the adventure and the community. As such, her fashion sense has deeply been influenced by this and what better way to infuse some fierce curves in it than with some wild contrasts?

She is wearing an Erzullie Holiday 2011 tube dress with wild printed leggings from the same collection. She then contrasts and ties up the whole outfit with with a light and long polkadot outerwear. Topped off with her violet ombre hair, sling bag and slim high top sneakers give it that casual street vibe as well.

It’s all about having the fun with style --- you know?

Cheers!

PLUS SIZE NEWS: GELLEESH.COM DECLARES, “PROUD TO BE A FIERCE ERZULLIESTA!”

Erzullie has become more than just a fashion line now, as Erzulliestas grew in number, so is the tightness of this fierce plus size fashion style tribe. I remembered someone asking me if it was a sorority of some sort and I guess in a way it has become one --- a tribe of fierce plus size women that recognizes the queen within and in each other.

That is why whenever I see a plus size woman declaring herself as one, I just feel so happy. This only shows that the brand has a long way to go and a great future ahead of it. It’s women like her that is why we are so strong and we keep on growing as a business.

As I follow her in her social media accounts, I can always find her going places around the city with heels on and she manages to keep her beauty in tact after a long commute! PLUS SIZE STYLE: “PRETTY PREPPY”

There is something delicately sophisticated about the preppy look. May it be the plaid print or the sleek looking silhouette of the tights, looking preppy is a timeless style route. But how can one elevate this style genre? By adding a dash of Erzulliesta flair in it! Just check out how Erzulliesta Nikki did it!

She added Erzullie’s Holiday 2012 lace bolero to connect with the delicateness of her plaid jumpsuit, while the sway of the bolero’s frill created a different textural detail for the whole outfit. She then adorned her legs with opaque tights that connected her whole outfit with her black stilettos. Combined with a light clutch and minimal to no accessories, the whole ensemble just looks comfortably and naturally styled.

We love it. So fierce!

PLUS SIZE DATING: OH-MY-GELLIE! (HOW THIS ERZULLIESTA IS HAVING A BLAST IN THE MANILA DATING SCENE)

It’s one thing for a single woman to be in a dating game, but it’s a whole level of fierceness when an Erzulliesta joins it. Example would be this 24 year old, magazine editor and blogger of the fashion/beauty blog, Gelleesh.com --- Erzulliesta Gellie Abogado, who has recently jumped in the dating scene and shares with us some of her experiences and dating gems.

#1 Why did you start dating and how did you start?

I started dating because I wanted to meet new people may it be for professional, friendship or romantic purposes. I usually get dates by saying hello to old friends, talking to someone who works in the same industry, but never within the same company (my personal preference) and online dating sites and application. Just be very extra careful because I can vouch for some men there but never to all.

#2 How do you prepare for a date and any tips on how to make it awesome?

First, know where you’re going and what you’ll be doing. This way, you’d be able to get a grasp of what you need to wear. Next, look and smell good to be presentable enough for the date. Finally, have a background about the person.

During the date, I suggest that you listen, be confident and never let anything intimidate you. Of course, keep your manners but never fake your personality.

After the date, I leave him a short message thanking him and telling him I had a great time. Next, we constantly communicate but not the every minute kind of thing. Finally, I make time for a second date.

#3 Any bad date parachute ideas?

A date once got in an argument in a restaurant because the other table was pretty sensitive with how loud we seem to be. I just kept quiet and let him take control. Afterwards, I made him calm down by flashing my sweetest smile. The simplest things can make them forget about the bad things that happened. After that, I have just moved on and learned from it.

#4 You’ve been in the dating scene for some time now, you say. How is it being a fierce plus size woman in the pond?

Plussies, in general, should keep in mind that what keeps a date interesting is not in how we lookN but what we do while we’re in one. I used to be insecure about my body before, but at the end of the day, it’s our personality that matters most. By being real, your date will always admire your genuine personality and confidence.

If it doesn’t work out, it’s fine. It only means that you guys are not a match. If it did, just take it slow, go with the flow, don’t rush things but you don’t need to hold back.

PLUS SIZE DATING: LOVE BY THE LOOKS OF IT (THE LESSON FROM JARROD)

Beau Soleil finds herself a man that loves the way that she looks and beyond, so if being plus size is not the problem in getting dates --- why did it end?

***

A few months back I dated this amazing guy. He is smart, talented and puts a lot of effort into seeing me. I would have to say, he was the best guy I have dated for 2013. It didn’t blossom into a relationship, but we did exclusively see each other. Let’s call him “Jarrod”.

Okay, so if Jarrod was the best guy I dated in 2013, why didn’t it go to a full-time committed relationship? Well, let’s just say, we had different ideas on how to proceed with it, but I had no regrets. When some of my friends found out about the “end” they were like, “But he should be lucky enough to have you. He’s not even good looking and all that!”

That pissed me off.

Dating has nothing to do with how one looks like physically. For me, going out with someone is more of like developing a special connection only the two of you can understand. I’ve had my fair shares of being that insecure girl whom I thought won’t be able to date anyone because I actually thought my being plus size may be a hindrance. But I believe that it actually paved way into meeting amazing men who are not into the superficial things --- example: Jarrod.

And for the time that he and I dated, I can honestly say that everything was real and there was a genuine connection. Every time we went out, time would just fly by. We just jived amazingly to the point that it can be a little scary (in a good way). But in the end we just had different views on how to proceed so it had to end. Sad but true.

So, you see, ultimately a relationship lasts for the connection and not for the looks. Because looks, we can change, but the direction on where it takes, it should always be a one direction thing --- and that is love by the looks of it.

PLUS SIZE OPINION: I’M FAT AND SINGLE --- PLEASE CALM DOWN

This is Erzulliesta Joanne (not her real name). She sends us this fantastic and fierce piece about being a fat, single woman and why it’s a choice and not the size. The piece is edited for brevity.

***

Let me get this straight --- being single has nothing to do with size because this situation spans across all shapes, ages and sizes of womanity out there. So what’s the hoopla about me being fat and single --- and “fat” being the reason?

Stupidity. That is what is call it.

At first, I was toying with the idea as I see my petite officemates get one date after another. But then, one time, my gay friend and I had a date and she told me this, “Joanne, you are single because you choose it to be.”

“What? I didn’t choose to be 33 and alone.” I snapped back.

“Yes you did because if you really wanted to have a man, you should be on a date right now.” She replied.

“I’d rather wait for the right man than date every man.” I said frustrated.

“There you go. You just said it.”

That’s where it hit me. I am single because I chose to be. There are a lot of guys that would take interest in me, but the truth is, I am just not interested in them. I am out there but I like to screen the men that I associate with --- what’s wrong with that? Nothing.

It’s called standards and every woman should have one. From then on, I felt happy knowing that me being single is a matter of choice, and I can change it any time that I want. So sisters, remember --- single is a life choice and our fats did not choose it for us.

PLUS SIZE STYLE: “SEXY COVERS”

Who says you have to always show skin to look sexy? Check out Erzulliesta Gellie’s “sexy covers” style and get some pointers!

She’s wearing Erzullie’s Corporate 2013 palazzo pants and paired it with a forest green top and cinched the whole look with a sturdy thick belt. The outfit emphasizes her curves in a more teasing way.

The belt supports the tummy, while making her loose top and the waist band of the pants more fitting for her curves. She then tops it off with a punch of red color with her necklace and adorned her feet with a pair of black boots, giving it the right sleek and interest feel to the whole ensemble.

So go ahead and get under your “sexy covers” today! As they say, the juiciest secrets are the ones that everyone knows but dare not to share it out in the open.

Cheers!

PLUS SIZE LIFE: CHANGING CHUBBLY (CHAMI VIRAY ON THE CHANGES OF THE BRAND AND HER SELF)

Erzulliestas are always known to be very fierce when it comes to their careers and Chami Viray is no different. At 25 years old, this Erzulliesta is already wearing diverse career hats (think blogger, fashion designer and interior stylist) as she runs Chubbly, one of Manila’s top plus size fashion brands. Lately, the brand has been slowly changing directions and many are left wondering what led to it and what does it take to evolve a fashion line?

#1 First off, tell us something about Chubbly.

Aside from being a professional multi-tasker (laughs), I still have a regular office job as a finance and administration officer. Being in a corporate setting really sucks the life out of me, so I think of ways to get inspired and motivated.

Enter CHUBBLY (Chami, my nickname + the word Bubbly = CHUBBLY)! The brand was initially part of my final graduation project back in the School of Fashion and the Arts Design Institute. I get to be both the model and target market of my own brand, so I started it.

#2 So why change Chubbly?

Chubbly is a reflection of myself. Wherever I go or what I do, my brand adapts. I added a new career, so the brand needs to change too. Change is good. You just need to realize that you need it to become better.

Chubbly was solely about business and grades before, but as I took a breather and thought about the brand’s future, I wanted to have a personal relationship with the readers and connect with them. I wanted it to become a blog that can inspire and get people motivated because that’s how I do it in my life now. There’s more to life than doing things for the sake of money.

Also, I think people nowadays are too preoccupied with a lot of things that they don’t bother to sit back and relax and be grateful of the things around them. I think I’m still one of those people. So, I want to change that and spread that love and appreciation.

#3 So what’s in the process of changing Chubbly?

Chubbly is still a plus size brand. From its hip and younger youth vibe, I’m moving toward the modern, contemporary and elegant styles because that’s how I look and style myself nowadays.

I haven't really launched the 'rebirth' of Chubbly just yet. Everything is still raw and fresh on my mind.

But for now, I just re-organized my online shop and incorporated it on my blog. I want it to be more interactive and give people an idea on what it's like to be a Chubbly girl/woman --- Modern. Contemporary. Elegant. I'm pretty excited. I’m also trying to do more on Interiors and lots of DIY tips and tricks on the blog. I might have a new line coming up. So I’ll let you guys know once it’s settled.

PLUS SIZE POWER: “I CHOOSE TO OPEN MY LIFE TO GREATNESS”

We are at the last week of the month, Erzulliestas! I’m sure you made the first month of the year very fierce. And since the theme of the mantras this January is all about “new beginnings” we think that this quote is the right way to end and open for what the next month may bring:

“I choose to open my life to greatness.”

Because an Erzulliesta is a queen and she is destined for greatness. No matter what it is.

PLUS SIZE STYLE: “CASUAL CLASS”

How do you downplay a powerful, sophisticated little black dress? By draping a rustic, printed-blasted scarf! Check out how Erzulliesta Timmy managed to transform her favorite Erzullie black dress into “casual class”.

The trick here is to keep the sophistication of the dress and dressing it down with some basic flats and contrasting it with an outrageous and contemporary print.

PLUS SIZE MODEL: THE EMANCIPATION OF TIMMY MARIANO

The emancipation of The Next Erzullie Icon 2013 (TNEI 2013) Top 3 Finalist, Timmy Mariano, from being ashamed of being plus size is a journey that needs to be told. Who would have guessed that an Erzullie dress is all that it would take to start the change? Now running for the title of Erzullie Icon, Timmy shares her story as a plus size woman, model and possible representative of Erzulliestas.

***

I am Timmy Mariano, 20 years old and an advertising student. Before I discovered Erzullie, I was ashamed of being referred to, shopping for or being associated with anything “plus size”.

But when I bought that black lace dress from Erzullie, I started to feel more confident and empowered to accept my size and met people of the same sentiment. I learned to be more confident and became a proud Erzulliesta --- a strong, successful, and confident plus size woman, who does not give damn about what anyone says about her.

I wanted to model long before I saw Erzullie, but I knew it was a long shot. Nonetheless, I have done small modeling projects for some of my photographer friends and recently for GMA news TV's episode about being plus size with Renee Salud.

During the plus size model go-see for TNEI, I was intimidated because there were 14 other gorgeous plus size ladies in there! When I was called, the first person to ask me a question from the panel was Ms. Loren Monares and she asked me about losing weight. The topic was still somehow sensitive to me and I started to cry. Good thing I started to calm down later on so that I could do well in my pictures.  After the go-see I felt and realized that I could possibly "fit" in the modeling industry after all. This made me see a possible shift in my career.

I want to empower Erzulliestas the way that the recent Icons have inspired me to accept myself. I want to represent the Erzulliestas who wants to be successful so that everybody would look up to her.

I have experienced people close to me, saying that I can’t achieve anything because I’m fat, but I dream of showing to everyone that these notions are wrong. With confidence in ourselves, we can achieve anything.

If I am not chosen, I would do part-time modeling and acting until the next search happens. Personally, I think that Monica would make an amazing Erzullie Icon. Monica's confident, self-assured and fierce personality is inspiration to those women who are afraid to fight back.
