PLUS SIZE MODELS: HOW TO GET BOOKED PART 2

OCTOBER 24, 2011
2:09 PM

COPYRIGHT ERZULLIE 2011
 Hello girls!

After posting the first article about plus size modeling, we have received great feedback and now they are asking for more tips and suggestions. Here is another article for it. Again, all of these suggestions are based on my own experiences as a client and former handler of models. I am not the GODDESS of everything that is right.

I hope that this would help you girls in getting your own plus size project.

1. SHOW UP

One job of a model is actually appearing for the job or any events leading to the job you are applying to. If you do not show yourself in the first place, then how do you expect getting it?

Furthermore, it actually shows your professionalism. I think that in any other job, showing up on time or earlier shows professionalism, because it does show that you do value your time and your clients'.

Finally, showing up shows your commitment. you are actually offering your business to them and not the other way around. Sure they have opened their doors through a go-see, but it is for every model out there --- not just you. So, since you have answered their call, it is your obligation to show up.

What is I have an emergency?
This is where your priorities come in. Which one is more important to you? If you really cannot go, notify the client at least three (3( days before. Notifying them on the day itself, when you knew about htis days before, will most likely turn your clients off. If it does happen on the day itself, do contact the client and apologize (and pray they would give you a 2nd chance).

2. DON'T BE DESPERATE

It is one thing to show how much you value your client's project, but it is a whole other thing to actually beg for it. If you do not get a specific job, do not at all costs, do the following:

a. Stalk your client

b. Ask why you were not chosen
c. Ask who were chosen and why
d. Beg for the project
e. Talk trash about the client

If you do any of the following, then more often than not, you will not get any projects from this client or any other clients connected to that client. Why?

a. Doing so is very unprofessional
b. Signs of insecurity (clients need confidence)
c. It is just plain weird (dissing the people that you need to actually be a model)

if you did not get the job, say thank you (if the opportunity arises) and move on politely.

3. NO TO "YOU-NEED-ME-MORE-THAN-I-DO." ATTITUDE

I am for self-worth but be grounded to reality. We can never be Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks or Heidi Klum because we can only be ourselves. When presenting to a client, DO NOT ON ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, give them the vibe of "I am better than you" and that if they do not get you, "IT IS THEIR LOSS". Although it may be true, the otherwise can also be as true as well.

I mean if you actually did not need this, then why the hell are you in the go see? Go home and do something else that you think is important.

Being a model is different from being a designer/entrepreneur (vice versa). Learn how to respect their expertise as I am sure they do to you. Show them what you can do. If you are as good, as you think you are, there is no need for arrogance. They will know.

4. DON'T TELL THEM WHO THIS WILL BENEFIT YOU --- NOT UNLESS THEY ASK FOR IT

The clients are hiring you because you are a model. The last thing that they need is a "user". If in friends we have always hated the idea, what more with strangers?

5. THE FAME GAME

The reason that a client hires you is to actually strengthen their image/their brand's image. Your job is to make the brand better with your skills.

This job will not make you famous --- your skills, performing in that job/project, will. So please do not go around proclaiming you are a celebrity. If are, the client should go to you, not the other way around.

Also, think about it, when Heidi Klum steps on the Victoria's Secret Runway, do you think they are hiring her for her celebrity status? No. They hired her because of her modeling skills and bringing the brand to the "celebrity status".

LAST WORDS

So for now ladies, here are some of the tips and tricks. Remember, I am not the Goddess of everything so make your own decisions about it. Okay?

Cheers!
