PLUS SIZE MODEL: HOW TO LAST IN THE INDUSTRY
I have always been a firm believer that I am what I think. In this case, whenever I am asked about the plus size fashion industry here in the Philippines, I always see it as a growing and always innovating one. As such, plus size modeling has been a bit of a buzz word lately in the local scene. Here are 3 tips on how to last in the industry:
#1 Do your research.
Just like any job, you need to know the industry that you are operating in. Why? So that you know who the real players are, how to deal with them and what skills you need to adapt in order to do your job as a model.
So be a dear and use Mr. Google. Know local news. Research about brands. Make yourself aware of the designers and the current plus size models.
#2 Hone your craft and always protect yourself.
Always find ways to perfect new poses or improve the way that you do your runway. There are a lot of legitimate photoshoots and workshops out there that you can try, but you also have to consider the kind of look you are aiming for as a model.
Remember, you, yourself, are a brand. When a brand looks at you, they are looking for someone that their customers will respond to. So build an image, through the experiences you acquire.
Rocker chic? Build a portfolio and experience that exudes that in varying manners.
Girl next door? Same.
#3 Remain professional.
If you want to be treated professionally, then you have to look, act and work like one. Even if the supposed employer is not, then that says more about them than you.
Always maintain your composure and keep your manners in line. Even if you had a bad experience, smile and take your leave. There are always other opportunities that you can get.
