PLUS SIZE FASHION: ERZULLIE PRE-HOLIDAY 2013 TEASER

For those who do not know it yet, here is a little factoid about Erzullie. We actually have 4 major collections (aiming for 5 if we can still manage to come out with an official Plus Size Couture Collection this year) --- Corporate, Resort, Pre-Holiday and Holiday. The first half of the collections/year, I am the one responsible for the designs (Corporate and Resort). For the Pre-Holiday and Holiday ones, well that is where Berna Cuevas comes in.

To those who have been with us through the years, I think you can actually witness the difference in our design aesthetics. I am more of the constructivist and luxurious loungewear kind of gal, while Berna is all about the social sophisticate cosmopolitan beauty. I know that these are almost two different design perspectives but we all do it in the broad description of Fierce Plus Size Fashion. All styles are aimed to empower the plus size woman.

Anyway, to get to the point of it all, and I am not dragging it... or stalling... or what not (tee-hee got you!), this post is about the Pre-Holiday 2013 collection! At least a little hint of what the Erzulliestas can expect from the fashion line, specifically this coming Fierce+Flaunt Plus Size Shopping event this June 15, 2013!

Obviously Berna got inspired with a specific print which is being hinted by the one above. Usually Berna gets her inspiration from a song (last time it was ALLLLLLL ADELE. My goodness! Played all month long until the production season lol) but I guess this time, she is trying something different to get her creative juices flowing. We are naming the collection "The New Dress Code" because of it.

PLUS SIZE FASHION: ARE WE READY FOR SOME PUNK ACTION?

I couldn't sleep last night. There was a lot of creativity going on in my mind. This sometimes gets me asking --- why do all great ideas come at night when I should be sleeping?

Anyway, I was thinking that a lot of people in the fashion polis are saying that Punk will be big next year with the whole Met Gala shibang and all. I was thinking if the Erzulliestas would be ready for some punk action as well? What do you think?

I mean I know you girls would not fully adapt it with the whole working lifestyle and all but maybe we can mold it to your liking, ladies? I mean it is edgy and fierce, what the brand is all about but, you know we dialed down the outrageousness from time to time. Remember this pink fluffy skirt? Hehe yeah... we did that once. 

It (the sketches) started off punk then I went on to Cher of Clueless then married it with Taylor Momsen. Yeah. It's a little confusing. I was also thinking if it is punk enough? Lol I don't want to disrespect the style genre by just throwing in some plaids and studs then I just declare it punk, when the real hardcore actual punks says it is not. Lol. 

These are just sketches of mine anyway.

PLUS SIZE FASHION: ERZULLIE RESORT 2013 RECAP

Well, the Pre-Holiday 2013 collection is up in full swing. We had some blows but we are still hanging in there! Berna was happy to report that the collection is coming in nicely and we do have a dress, top, skirt and pants coming up. We plan to release it at the Fierce+Flaunt Plus Size Shopping Event.

PLUS SIZE FASHION: THE ERZULLIESTA MAY 2013 (4)

This week has been a little light on the blog post for Erzullie. We can't deny that we have been a little quiet on the social pages which is surprisingly new for our brand as you know we love to chat up a storm.

But to update you girls, we are actually preparing for some major events for the brand:

1. The Fierce and Flaunt Plus Size shopping event, which we are very excited about as we are partnering with Shop Chubbly! Another amazing plus size brand in Metro Manila. If this event becomes successful, we hope to include other plus size brands as well that we know you girls will definitely love.

2. We are preparing for the Pre-Holiday and Holiday 2013 collections already. We will be honest, a lot of internal changes have been happening in Erzullie and well, some adjustments have to be made. Our head seamstress, Tita Glen, died this month and it really took a huge blow on us personally and business wise. She is a great part of the Erzullie family and well... I think you already know what we are feeling right now.

But there are other things greater than grief. We know that if Tita Glen was here right now, she wouldn't want us to give up. She knows that we do this for the local plus size community and we will continue on to honor her belief in us.

Again, Tita Glen, wherever you are, rest in peace. We will continue your legacy of amazing skills in tailoring. Super hugs.

In addition to that, we know how much Erzulliestas love how we put so much thought in the value of each of our design. As such, for the Pre-Holiday and Holiday 2013 collections, we are now switching to Demi-Couture.

What is demi-couture? Well technically there is a lot of definitions of it and it has not been pinned down. But so far, it is the combination of RTW and couture. RTW is mass produced while couture is defined as "custom made either by hand or machine". In application to Erzullie, we will only 8 pieces in total for each design that we will make by hand or machine to protect and create higher value for each design.

Will that mean higher prices? Of course not. We will keep all the prices as they are right now, it's just that the number of it will go down. So that every Erzulliesta would know that anything bought from Erzullie is of high design and aesthetic value. Only 8 people in the world can have it and one of them belongs in your closet.

3. Next month is the start of the much awaited, PLUS SIZE MODEL GO SEE. We will be posting it in all of our social sites after the Fierce and Flaunt event so interested applicants, be alert about it. I personally suggest that you brush up on your Erzullie because what we are looking for ultimately is THE NEXT ERZULLIE ICON.

4. Oh! Check out the latest list of our outlets! Due to the business direction we are about to take, as we have mentioned earlier, we are going demi-couture, we have decided to streamline our outlets. We are still available at Backstage Store, 2nd Floor, Serendra, Taguig City.

5. We have also announced that we have opened the couture section of our brand. To keep our quality of service high, we will have to limit the number of clients for now. Our slots are already filled up and we would like to thank all of the Erzulliestas that decided to have their plus size couture items --- Erzulliefied! (Wow, it has been a long time since we have used that term!)

This edition of The Erzulliesta "may" be a little late (No pun intended... It is for May 2013 - 3 ) but we are here to give you all the Erzullie goodness you sure would want to know!

#1 Obviously, this week is all about the Ezullie Pop Shop! We posted some reminders and how to get there instructions to make sure Erzulliestas will get there safely. We really would like to thank all of the Erzulliestas (both old and new) that droppped by the place and supported us! Photos are yet to be posted and oh! Of course, we would like to thank Mrs. C for helping us promote the event as well as Gelleesh.com!

#2 In relation to the shopping event that happened last weekend, it was only fitting to have an Erzulliesta Mantra that is about "deserving the best kind of fashion". We just thought that you girls need a reminder (just in case you forget, but we know you are sharp!) "My curves deserve the best kind of fashion." 

#3 Aside from celebrating, Erzullie Icon and Plus Size Model, Kat Lopez', smexy legs during fierce Friday, we also celebrated another beautiful Icon's birthday! It was Erzullie Icon and Plus Size Model, Andrea Ventosa's birthday last week. Happy birthday again, Erzulliesta!

#4 Dubbed as "has been retailer" by The Fashion Law, Abercrombie & Fitch CEO, Mike Jeffries, was under fire since the start of the month because of a very old interview. Apparently, for the CEO, plus size women will never be part of the "in crowd". The plus size community, however, just wondered more about the relativity of this man's point of view. A development occurred and it is yet to be posted.

#5 Speaking of having a 'point of view', Erzullie Icon and Plus Size Model, Kat Lopez, shares her own about "How To Deal" with having everything you ever wanted all at once. And you thought having nothing was a problem...

Today is the first ever, stand alone, Erzullie Pop Shop! (May 18, 2013; 6:00pm -9:00pm) at the Function room of Caffeccino (now called, DOME), Eastwood City, Quezon City! Here is the map of the place and some instructions on how to get there.

If you are preparing for the event, here are some things that you have to know about the event:

1. It's a pure shopping event open to the public (no need to register)
2. 50% off on selected items and some accessories as well!
3. Personal shoppers to assist you with your needs
4. Talk with the designers and tell them about what you want to see on the next collection and on how you feel about the current one!

Only a few days to go before we have the Erzullie Pop Shop on May 18, 2013, Saturday, (6:00pm-9:00pm) at the Caffeccino Function Room, Caffeccino, Eastwood City, Quezon City! We are very excited to see you, Erzulliestas again! We hope you have fun as you shop for your fierce plus size fashion, enjoy free personal shopper service, chatting with the designers and of course socialization with other Erzulliestas! If you are wondering on how to get there, here is the map that you need:

To be specific, Caffeccino Dome is across Blue Water Spa (which is in line with the Holy Family/John Paul II Church, Bikram Yoga and David's Salon). It is also across the Wagyu Restaurant. Caffeccino is also in the same lane as Marks& Spencer and Dorothy Perkins.

If you are coming from Eastwood Mall, take the exit near Cafe Momo, turn RIGHT and pass by Kurosawa, Chef's Quarter and two other restaurants. You will see Bread Talk, go towards the building across it and Caffeccino is already there!

PLUS SIZE FASHION TREND: "NEUTRALIZE ME"

One of the prevalent fashion trends for Spring 2013 is the neutral colors. The solid neutrals are a great staple for any woman's closet. It is easily adapt to virtually almost any color of wardrobe and with just hints of metallic sheen of the accessories, shoes or bags, there is an instant glimmer of sophistication for the wearer.

If you are not into the full blown neutrals, you can also just try to incorporate it to your outfit via accessories, shoes or bags. Neutrals are great for fashionistas who wants to break their dark ensemble streak without using the usual bold color route. A light neutral is enough to tie the whole outfit together and break the drab of going all dark.

Choosing fashion items that has incorporated the neutral color via cloth combination or prints is also a great route to choose should you want to experiment if neutrals would go with you. We suggest going first with small streaks of neutrals in one fashion item before moving forward with print as at times, the lavishness of a print depends on how it can compliment a person's style.

And so, if you want to disarm anyone with exuding some subtle elegance and sophistication, going neutral is a great fashion trend to try!

PLUS SIZE MODEL: KAT LOPEZ INTERVIEW (MAY 2013)

For the woman who has it all --- love, life, family, career, success, a great sense of self and prosperity, it can all get too complicated. Sometimes in the whirlwind of all the responsibilities connected to those aspects of our lives, we get burned out. At times, we even get lost and then we start to question of whether or not this is still worth all of the effort that we are doing. 

But then there is Kat Lopez, the epitome of the modern plus size woman, a multi-tasker that performs everything with such grace and calm you would be wondering --- how can she do it all? Between being a singer/songwriter down to rushing to her obligations as a speech therapist then back to being an Erzullie Icon and plus size model, not to mention her other social responsibilities as a loving daughter and friend --- how can an Erzulliesta survive all of this with her mind and self in tact?

We got down and had a short chat with this superwoman and asked her on some tips on "how to deal" with everything. 

1. For you, what does “Glamour” mean and how do you apply it to your daily life as a singer/songwriter/speech therapist and now a plus size model? Surely you get burned out at times doing all of these things simultaneously. How do you cope?

Glamour is a choice. It is a thing women naturally possess that, when used, gives her beauty and power. For me, once I choose to be glamorous, it changes my outlook, and inevitably the way I look. Choosing to hold my head up high and sitting pretty while wearing shorts and flip flops, for example, amps up the outfit. Glamour is a woman's natural gift, choose to use it, do not resist it, and it will change you.

As of my different roles in life, being a singer/songwriter/speech therapist and now a plus size model --- these are things that I love and it felt so natural - inevitable even - to pursue them. I’m a heart-driven person and follow where it leads me. The choice to see myself as a glamourous woman of size made me confident enough to pursue modeling in particular. The act of modeling itself further validated that.

2. Where do you get the confidence of doing all of these obligations simultaneously? Do you have any role models that you look upon for inspiration to keep on doing what you do?

I get the confidence to do all these things that I love from experience, over time. My role models vary, but to be specific, I idolize my mom and all of the the women of my family. For modeling, I see top plus models like Tara Lynn and Clementine Desseaux as my role models. They are all very powerful and inspiring women.

3. How did this sense of confidence help you tackle your latest endeavour --- being a plus size model for Erzullie? Can we ask how was your first time modeling for the brand from the go-see to the actual shoot? 

I'm used to performing for years. The fact that I had to do it for eyes this time was an exciting prospect.

The go see was fun. It was the first time to actually go to a plus size model go see and I was asked to make rampa and got a kick out of that.

I was quite nervous at first during the shoots. (I) had to stretch, wiggle and scream to get relaxed. I have been practicing beforehand though so it helped, somehow. So did the fact that I was working with easygoing and absolutely wonderful people. After I while I became more confident and started flirting with the camera. I loved that I was being made up and dressed up. Being a geek, I also loved the technicalities of it. I enjoyed experimenting with poses and angles and seeing the effect on film. I also play certain songs in my head while doing shoots to get me into the right mood. Katy Perry and Rihanna songs usually do the trick.

The entire line spells flirty, fierce comfort. I can imagine myself wearing my fave dress in the collection while walking barefoot on the beach with the one I love, with the skirt blowing in the wind. hehe.

The experience in general was nerve wracking at times yet part of me was strangely calm because I knew I was doing something I'm passionate about.
