Almost 2,000 plus size model applications were received for this year’s The Next Erzullie Icon 2015 (#TNEI2015). When we picked Ms. Love Laguda for the Top 50, it was her model chameleon prowess that struck us the most. She knows her body well and was able to create poses that has been deemed difficult to be flattering for almost any model.
But what made her get stuck in my mind? This moment during the go-see.
Aries: So you said here that you haven’t even tried Erzullie --- how can you represent a brand that you yourself haven’t even worn?
Love: (tries to explain on how she can represent a brand she just knew) *deep breath*… I will be honest, I don’t know much about Erzullie yet as I just discovered it right now, literally this month.
Aries: I’ll take honesty over bullshit anytime. Thank you for saying that.

Most models would try so hard to win us over by telling us they are the brand’s biggest fan and even when it is already obvious that they do not know what they are talking about, they still try to run with it.
Great modeling skills can be rare, but being honest when the outcome seems more favorable with a lie is something that I love hanging on to.
Ms. Laguda did not take the easy route in that uncomfortable question and I think that is a characteristic that any possible Icon should have. Being one is not an easy route either, it’s a commitment to an advocacy for fierce plus size women. And thus, she became part of our Top 4 for #TNEI2015.
Hopefully, you ladies would love her to represent you for 2015. Thoughts?
